Italian Artisan Craft Courses

Italy historical is famous for its artisan crafts. Perhaps it is the inspiration that has derived from the fine arts - and masters like De Vince and Maichaelarolgy that has inspired the craft sector to produce amazing works in their own right. And in Italy, Florence is perhaps the most important centre of crafts with artisans keeping this important history alive in the unique Italian creations that are produced
Italian craftsmanship results from the age-old history of Italian culture and tradition and  is continuously improved by the most prominent achievements of innovation.

The Italian craft sector is consequently the melting pot of the Italian cultural and traditional heritage as well as of current working and entrepreneurial skills, creativity, quality, tradition-honouring innovation,  as evidenced throughout its history.

Our school has selected four of virant crafts to run long courses in:
 furniture restoration,  painting restoration,  goldsmith's and jeweller's art ,  leather goods manufacture


Full Time Long Term Courses ( one to nine months) are available in each of the following crafts:

 furniture restoration

 painting restoration

 goldsmith's and jeweller's art 

 leather goods manufacture

They are organised together with the Association of Artisans of Florence and are available to beginners as well as to those students who are already familiar with artisan skills.

In the arts and crafts workshops students learn these ancient skills in a typical Florentine artisan shop (bottega). Courses comprise of Italian lessons focused on technical terminology as well as craftsmanship training. After a first theoretic approach, students start using tools and work objects manually with the precious advices of the artisan. Courses can have a duration of 1, 3 or 9 months.

Each package of a complete course includes:

  • conversation group lessons in the morning

  • one-to-one lessons on the subject's history (16 hour lessons)

  • one-to-one lessons on the subject's technical terminology (24 hour lessons)

  • theory and training in the workshop

  • insurance

Schedule and dates of workshop lessons are arranged between learners and staff. A maximum of 3 students can participate in each workshop lesson. At the end of the course students receive their certificate of attendance by the Association
